The biggest event in pop culture 2025 happened yesterday when Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce announced their engagement. I told my kids (turning 8 and 5) and they reacted in very 'meh' fashion. I took a video of this and sent it to a friend, who then made a "KPop Demon Hunters" reference.
While I've heard of this Netflix movie, we just haven't taken the time to sit down and watch it. We have nothing against it, and it sounds like a cool concept. But ultimately, it just hasn't happened. So how did we do this? Honestly, I'm totally shocked we've held out since it was released on Netflix on June 20. These are my five reasons on why we haven't watched "KPop Demon Hunters" ... yet.
We've been very closely following the ups and downs of the Mets season. When it comes to TV watching in our house, my wife and I seem to be more lax about sports than anything else, and fortunately we have the MLB package so we can watch the Mets every day. In fact, my kids are watching them right now!
2. Southern California weather
Being a native New Yorker, I'm trained to go outside when the weather is nice. Fortunately, in SoCal, where we live, the weather is always fine. Even when it's hot it's not that hot. So we've gone outside a lot when we have free time, rather than sit down and watch "KPop Demon Hunters".
3. Disneyland
When you have Disneyland passes, you feel like you need to use them as much as possible to make them hit their value. Since the weather has been pretty mild this summer, we've found ourselves spending a lot of time at the park. I don't mind! We love Disneyland โ or at least I do!
4. Netflix
My kids just don't go to Netflix for programming by default, so they haven't seen any videos for "KPop Demon Hunters" to create any curiosity.
5. Jack Black
After my kids watched "A Minecraft Movie", they realized the joy of Jack Black films. When we've had time for movie nights, they've been dedicated to "School of Rock" or "Nacho Libre".
Will we continue this streak of not watching "KPop Demon Hunters"? Unlikely. It's way too heavy in our entire pop culture consciousness. But I hope this "how to not watch" guide was helpful! It was fun to write at least!
